Verulam Angling Fisheries

FROGMORE

SITUATED between St Albans and Radlett (not to be confused with the LAA waters), Frogmore is also a long established fishery. It has not been without its problems, however.

Increasingly low water levels over many years saw this fishery decline despite still holding some excellent fish. In 1996 we were able to line the lakes with clay and with some construction work, make two pools out of the old three. As a result, water levels are now consistent and with landscaping, the fishery is now a firm favourite again. Following considerable reworking it now features a prolific 30 peg 'carp match' pool and a big bream water, the Car Park pool.
The match pool is very popular in the summer when visiting anglers can expect up to a dozen or more carp averaging around 5lb In addition to hosting regular VAC matches it can also be booked for matches by guaranteeing  club member.

A number of the carp are now well into double figures with the largest around 14lb. When these are proving difficult the Match Pool also produces excellent sport with surprising numbers of good rudd, roach and perch plus occasional bream, chub and tench

The match record, set in August 2002 is over 54lb.

The Car Park pool is now well established and can be used by members at any time (except at night), as can the match pool when there are no fixtures being held. This holds several hundred large bream to 6lb+ and a small number of high single/low double carp to around 18lb. A recent stocking of tench between 2 & 3lb  during the Spring of 2000 has enhanced sport as these fish are now approaching 4lb+.
